I cannot believe what I have seen today. Popped into Eastleigh to go to the bank and walk past the tanning place , you know, the ones where they are unmanned! What do I see? A huge poster in the window promoting toning up your body whilst you tan - I ask you! Apparently you stand on a vibrating plate and this will tone all your muscles, whilst you just stand there doing nothing - what do they take us for?
Now vibrating plates do have their uses, but to stand there and wobble the fat off is not one of their benefits. It reminds me of those awful machines of the 80's where the band went round your waist and you stood there being shaken all over the place. It didn't work then and it wont work now!
What they can be great for is rehabilitation and for actually exercising on as the additional movement recruits more of your muscles as they try to stabilise your body. I have used them for doing the plank on and squatting and it is definitely more difficult!
As with most exercise equipment they can be useful and effective when used correctly but all too often we want an easy way out and look for a quick fix. Why else would slimming pills and patches that allegedly melt fat have such a large share of the market? We have to admit to our own responsibility. If we are overweight then it is because we have eaten too much of the wrong food and not exercised enough - there is no other reason. 71% of adults aged 45-65 are classified as overweight and/or obese. That is a shocking statistic.
If you want to change then COMMIT. No more excuses for eating the junk, no more 'I've had a bad day and need to treat myself'. Focus on how fantastic you will feel when you can bounce around with the energy you had 10 years ago, when your clothes are looser, you will feel like a million dollars and no extra choccie, pasta or pie will compensate you for that will it?
