Did you start this year determined that this would be the year that you WOULD achieve those health and fitness goals? The year where you would get your dream job, have that holiday of a lifetime, meet the most wonderful partner or rocket your relationship to the most wonderful level? Has it happened? No? Why?
Well, how many of us took the time to work out why we didn't achieve the above the year before. Were your goals different or were they exactly the same? My guess is they were the same or similar - good for you if they were different and you achieved them though - that is just great. However, for the majority of us we have the same expectations year after year, spend many months feeling guilty, like a failure and come up with 'what's the point' attitude.
STOP NOW!
Sit down and work out why you didn't achieve your goals in 2009. Write them all down, every single thing no matter how minor.
Next, look at that list and work out how NOT to fall into the same trap, how are you going to approach this differently - again, write it all down.
Is there something that would make a huge difference to your motivation to succeed, a support network, a life coach and best friend who holds you accountable and you agree to 'meet' regularly to discuss progress.
Remember that this is so much more than a resolution. In fact BIN that word forever more! This is a LIFE PROMISE to yourself. You are making a contract with yourself - you are worth this and deserve this.
Promise yourself that you will not tolerate things that annoy you - why should you. This allows negativity to creep in and surround you.
Make a specific promise to yourself that reflects the list above, eg: I will not tolerate clutter!
Then make a list that shows you who is going to help you achieve your aim, surrounding yourself with positive people, places that make you feel good, activity that leave you bursting with energy, the list is endless.
Lastly create an intention. Something that motivates and excites you. Put it on notes and put it up around your house. Now, this may sound a bit naff and happy clapper to some of you but there is so much research out there that shows our thoughts have an astonishingly profound effect on our lives, our outlook and our decision. You have to believe that you can do these things, you deserve them and you will enrich your life.
